Coolmax Taurus 140mm Silent Switching PSU

Company: Coolmax
Product: Power Supply
Reviewer: Goblin

I'd like to thank Elaine of Coolmax for providing us with the Taurus 140mm Silent Switching PSU for review.

Bigger is better. That seems to be the motto of Coolmax with the introduction of their Taurus 140mm Silent Switching PSU. That’s right, you read correctly, 140mm. No matter who you are in the world of power supplies, 140mm is a big fan! As a matter of fact, everything about this psu is done in a big way.

To start off, the Taurus 140mm comes in 300, 350, 400, 450, 500 and 550 watt flavours. Of course there was a bit of confusion when we first received this psu. Due to a misprint on the side of the box, the 500 watt unit we received was mislabelled as a 300 watt unit. After closer examination of the unit itself we discovered that we did indeed have a 500 watt psu but this may be something that Coolmax would want to take care of considering the mislabelling is printed on the outside of the box, thereby leading potential 500 watt psu customers astray.

Features:

-The power supply is a minimum of 60% efficient under typical load.
-The "Energy Star" efficiency of the power supply is a minimum of 50% when the AC input power is 60W.
-The power supply DC outputs are enabled with an active-low, TTL-compatible signal ("PS-ON").
(with the exception of +5 VSB which is always available)
-When PS-On is pulled to TTL low, the DC outputs are enabled.
-When PS-ON is pulled to TTL high or open-circuited, the DC outputs are disabled.
-PS-ON may be active by either electronic means or a mechanical switch.
-The output voltage overshoot upon the application or removal of the input voltage is less than 10%
-Test to be performed at nominal input voltage.
-Maintain output regulation despite a loss of a minimum of 16ms while under full load

Active PFC: 0.95@230VAC; Passive PFC: 0.7@230VAC
