Spire Cooler SkiveStream 3

Company: Spire Cooler
Product: Heatsink
Reviewer: Goblin

As processors get faster, they produce more heat. This means that it doesn’t take long before the stock cooler that came with your cpu just doesn’t do the job as well as you might like. One of the first upgrades to a stock system is the swapping of the stock cpu cooler to a cooler that will move more air, thus keeping the cpu cooler. Quite often, in the world of coolers, size matters. Coolers are getting bigger and louder. But that’s the sacrifice you make to keep you system cool right? Not necessarily. Today we’re going to take a look at Spire coolers Skivestream III.

Upon opening the package, we were a little surprised to discover that this cooler is really quite small compared to some of the coolers on the market today. This is a good news bad news sort of situation. The good news is that you don’t have to worry about the cooler fitting inside your case and it is not so heavy that it is going to put undue stress on your socket lugs, leaving the potential of them breaking and you ending up with a cooler at the bottom of your case. The bad news is that a smaller cooler mean a smaller fan, which means it’s not going to move as much air as its larger cousins. It also means a smaller base, which will take longer to pull the heat away from your cpu in the first place.

Next came what we like to call the WOW! factor. Simply put, it takes into account how a product looks both on its own and in a case. This cooler looks great. Chrome grill, translucent blue fan; this is one of the nicest looking coolers to come across our desks in a long time. With more and more emphasis being placed on how your computer looks as well as how it performs the Skivestream III scores huge points. Grills are important to keep your fingertips intact but this grill mixes form with function. Forget the generic wire circle; this grill looks like it belongs in a modded case. Truth is, this cooler looked impressive sitting on our desk BESIDE a computer.
