Installation was easy enough. The controller fits into a standard 5 ¼” bay and screws into place. Don’t worry about having enough cable to hook up your fans to the controller. I hooked up each of the fans with room to spare. One important point, “In” is the power from the motherboard while “out” goes to the fans. This is where instructions would have been nice since this is not something you want to mix up.

Once everything was set up, I decided to see how this controller actually performed. The computer was turned on and everything lit up like a Christmas tree. Very festive. By turning the different knobs allows you to control each fan’s speed and watch the LEDs change colour. Then I decided to do a very regrettable thing. I decided to simulate a fan failure. Long story short, I think my ears are still bleeding. The Led turns red and let’s just say; there is no way you would miss a fan failing in your system. Actually, I think your neighbours would know as well. I’ve heard a fair number of annoying sounds come out of computers but this piercing squeal was by far the most annoying.

Overall, the SCP-A performed adequately. I wasn’t very impressed by the overall look of the unit or by the plastic knobs but I did like the coloured LEDs. If you’re looking for a simple fan controller that’s simple to install, then the SCP-A might be the controller for you.

Pros:
• Easy to install
• Love those coloured LEDS
• Warning if fan fails
• Separate power lines for each fan

Cons:
• Very plasticy
• Alarm is piercing
• No instructions
