Then Logitech adds all the little extras which makes these things so much fun. Face-tracking is a bit of an annoyance in my opinion. Its job is to keep your face centered on the screen at all times and while it does this job well, everytime you move, the camera has to readjust. Thankfully, you have the option of whether you want face-tracking on or not. Then you have the digital zoom, which really does an excellent job. This webcam is also a digital camera which can generate a 1.3 megapixel picture. While that’s a really nice feature and it does take very nice pictures (much better than many webcams l have seen) you have to remember that this is a webcam first and a camera second. Especially considering it is attached to your computer via USB cable which means you can take great pictures of the room you are in but forget about taking it to the park.
One feature we do find ourselves using on a regular basis is the video capture mode. If you are looking for examples of this just check any of our previous articles that have video in them. That video was filmed with this webcam.
As for the security camera function, well it does work and it is highly configurable but it’s not something we use on a regular basis. It’s fun to try and we have used it in its motion sensitive capacities to post a small site on what is going on outside our office window at any given moment but in our opinion it was more of a toy than an actual security camera. We wouldn’t use this camera if we were trying to securely monitor our office but it is fun to see who goes to the office fridge and things like that.
So, overall this is a great webcam, a good digital camera (if you like your camera on a leash) and a so-so security camera. We have put this webcam through it’s paces on a number of occasions using a variety of applications and this webcam more than pulled it’s own weight. If you are looking for a reliable webcam with which to chat with your friends you could do a lot worse than the quickcam pro 4000.

• The microphone picks up all the sound in a room
