Then came the moment of truth. It’s all fine and good that the mouse looks good but how would this rocking motion translate into day to day usage? Well, the answer is….remarkably well. It takes about 10 minutes to get used to the fact that you no longer have any buttons to push but then the whole effect starts to feel incredibly natural. This mouse is the ultimate for efficiency of movement. As a day to day mouse, this mouse was an absolute pleasure to use. It was a bit awkward trying to drag and drop items from one folder to another though. It’s hard to click and move the mouse at the same time.

Actually, that leads to a key point. Where this mouse runs into some problems is when it comes to gaming. Now not all games are affected by the Crystal mouse’s rocking motion. Strategy games work just fine but if you are into first person shooters (FPS), you might want to think twice about this mouse. Since you have to tilt the mouse to the left or the right in order to activate a button, your aim in a FPS suffers.

Also, while the whole idea of an LED optical mouse looks impressive, the fact of the matter is that your hand is covering the majority of the mouse at any given time, thereby making the whole glowing concept a bit of a moot point.

Overall, this mouse is a nice bit of eye candy (especially in a dark room) and it’s sure to impress your friends when they see it for the first time. Of course, this whole left rock, right rock idea takes some getting used to.

Pros:
• Really comfortable to use.
• Bright LEDs
• USB to PS/2 adapter included

Cons:
• Lack of traditional buttons takes some getting used to.
• Awkward to use in FPS or if you want to drag and drop something.

* After some thought, we have decided to give this mouse an extended trial period. Perhaps with extended use we will be able to reprogram our brains in order to take full advantage of the left and right rocking motions. After some debate we decided that it wasn’t fair to judge such an innovative product on a 2 week trial. So, for the next 3 months we’re going to use this mouse and see how it really performs. At the end of this time we will post our final findings.
