To test out the cooler a heat sensor was attached to the hard drive, ran it for 1 hour and recorded the temperature (28.5 C). Then, after turning off the system, I installed the hard drive cooler, ran the system for another hour and recorded the results.
The difference in temperature with the cooler was a drop of 3.5 degrees C for a new temperature of 25 C even. I was impressed with this drop in temperature. A 3.5-degree drop in the hard drive temperature in the space of 1 hour was a pleasant surprise.
Anyone who has ever experienced a hard drive failure knows that it’s not the hard drive itself that is expensive, it’s all those things on the hard drive that you MEANT to backup and never did that will cost you in both time and grey hair. Will a 3.5-degree drop in temperature extend the life of your hard drive? Well, it really can’t hurt.
I find this device to be a cheap insurance against potential headaches and extra stress l really don’t need. It’s easy to install, quiet and it looks impressive when attached to your hard drive. This is one of those accessories that you would probably never take a second look at. It just doesn’t look that impressive in its packaging but as they say: looks can be deceiving. This cooler works very well and l would recommend it to anyone who is looking for ways to extend the life of their hard drive.
Pros:
• Easy to install
• Quiet
• Looks impressive inside your computer
• Pass-through power molex
• Does what it says it will do.
Cons:
• No instructions
• Could be a tight squeeze if used with more than 1 hard drive.
