I'd like to thank Elaine of Coolmax for providing us with the Fanless Switching Power Supply for review.
The silent system. It’s the dream of many enthusiasts but it is easier said than done. Many people go the way of bigger fans and lower rpms for less noise but the key sticking point has always been the power supply. Power supplies generate a fair amount of heat and they need a fan to keep things cool. Well, at least they did. Coolmax has just introduced a fanless power supply. No fan = No noise. Great! But what about the heat???? That’s what we are going to find out today when we put this unit to the test.
This unit comes fully equipped. If you don’t believe us then check out this list of features:
Features:
· Real No-noise Design.
· High performance components are designed for extra long life and provide maximum system performance
· Heavy-duty transformers designed to support high performance system with several drives
· Cable-tube on main power cables for better cable routing and neatness
· Aluminium Chassis
· Built in EMI filter, low ripple noise
· Over voltage, Over power and Short-circuit protection
· Tube-tide design to tidy the wires
· Designed refer to UL, CSA, TUV regulations. Meet Intel ATX12V/ATX 2.03 requirements
· Compatible with all leading processors including Pentium III, 4 and AMD Athlon XP
To top it off, just in case you have a lot of peripherals running in your system, this psu comes with 6 molex connectors and is serial ATA ready. This system is designed to be compatible with all ATX motherboards, works with both Pentium and AMD processors and comes in 300, 350, 400 and 480 Watt capacities. So whatever your power needs, Coolmax has a unit that will do the job quietly.
Today we will be testing the 350 Watt model. Upon first glance it looks like a pretty standard power supply with a lot of slits in it. One thing that we didn’t quite understand is why some of the wires were sleeved and some of them aren’t. Oh well, so is life. It would have been nice to have them all sleeved but it is not the end of the world either. A fair number of power supply’s don’t sleeve any of their wires!
