I never really thought about memory card readers/writers until recently. I understood what they were for but not really why l would ever need one. Now, with the increased popularity of digital cameras, PDAs, etc, memory cards have become an integral part of our lives. Quite often, we just stick the memory card(s) into our device and forget about them but when you want to transfer information from your device to your computer or vice versa, suddenly a problem appears. It’s slow! Depending on what you are trying to do, it can actually go from slow all the way down to tedious.
I recently bought myself a new PDA and it didn’t take long before l wanted to transfer files from my computer to my PDA or vice versa. That was not fun. As anyone who has a PDA can probably vouch for, if you are trying to transfer files back and forth it can take forever. After spending long amounts of time waiting for files to transfer, l suddenly realized that a card reader/writer might be a fine purchase. So, off l went and bought myself the SanDisk Imagemate.
This is a simple device to use. First of all, it’s tiny! About the size of a deck of cards, this reader/writer can be stuck in your pocket and taken anywhere. This portability is very handy when you are at work or a friend’s house and want to transfer files and or pictures. Secondly, the setup is about as intuitive as you could ever want. The reader comes with a USB 2.0 cable which plugs directly into your computer and an installation cd with a quick start guide, drivers for Windows 98se, a media companion for the unit itself and as an added touch, a copy of Adobe Photoshop album (starter edition).
