I-Rocks Beetle mouse

Company: I-Rocks
Product: Mouse
Reviewer: Goblin

There are hundreds of different styles of mice on the market today that do a hundred different things. The big question is: what do you need your mouse to do for you? Today, we are taking a look at I-rocks’ Beetle mouse. A nice solid mouse that performs very well, without a lot of fancy add-ons.

First thing to point out is that I am left handed, which for all you right handed people out there means a lot of mice with all those buttons along the sides are pretty much useless to me. So, when I look for a mouse, I’m looking for something that is comfortable and performs well without a collection of bells an whistles I’ll never use. Thankfully, the Beetle is just that kind of mouse.

Finding a well-made yet simple mouse has become more difficult over the years. Often functionality is sacrificed for aesthetics or vice-versa. Thankfully, the Beetle has provided both, with solid performance to boot. Visually, this is a nice looking mouse. The shiny black shell (thus explaining the name I suppose) hides the left and right buttons, thereby leaving a smooth, shiny surface that improves the visual quality of the mouse (also known as the ooooh factor!). Add to that the Chrome-like trim and you have a mouse that is quite eye-catching. This mouse is not just another pretty face though. It has a number of features which make the Beetle a solid performer as well.

First off, it has an 800 dpi resolution which simply means it is very quick and responsive (something I’m really partial to). Secondly, it comes with cross-directional scrolling. That means that the scroll wheel scrolls forwards and backwards to move your pages up and down (as most scroll wheels do) but this wheel also moves left and right for those larger pages on the net or programs such as Excel which can expand beyond the standard screen size. Honestly, I find that the left and right scrolling action is not that important in my day to day life but that probably has to do with the fact that I don’t use many programs that actually need this feature. When the situation came up though, the cross-directional scroll button did come in handy. Add to that the fact that it comes with a USB to PS2 adapter (something I wish more companies would think of) and a driver disk and you are good to go.
